Bengal has always undergone all sorts of admixtures within its populace . After the fall of the Sindhughati civilization in the hands of the uncivilized barbaric Aryans, races and peoples of different civilizations invaded at different times. All these people had some offshoots moving over to the east and got admixtured with the local populace , and there was never any opposition from the local populace when people of different races came in and settled down, but they always opposed any military and political move from the Aryabatta they also opposed any endeavour of trampling down the local culture. The Dravid land of South India capitulated and abondoned their urban civilization and accepted with more vigour the Aryan civlization (the ludicrous part is when absolutely black skinned South Indian Brahmins take pride that they too are Aryans and have no connection to the Dravidiyan civilization) .Bengal never really accepted this bent of mind . Ballal Sen brought in 10 upper caste families from Garwal and established the upper stratum of Bengalee populace(which deplorably still is at the helm of affaires). But in due course they too changed their habits and mores (like meat eating , Shakto following etc) and slowly distanced themselves from their antecedants , No where in India you would find the same surnames (of the 10 families) other than being a Bengalee. The proximity of the Mongoloid civilizations and the South-east Asia gave them a big mixture of the Arakani and Mongoloid features and cultural traits . Thai civilization has so much in common with a bengalee that is always felt by a repatriated bengalee in the outside world in terms of food , clothing, norms and mores. Islam came to India much earlier than it surfaced in other parts of India. The advent of Islam in Bengal was not through war but through the Sufi saint SHah Jalal directly from Arabia in the eastern most district of Bengal during the 7th Century A.D, five century before Pathans invaded India . The convertion in Bengal thus started much before they could enforce it through swords , since they were not in the state power. As a matter of fact there is no evidence found in Bengal when Islam was forcefully throttled down the Bengalees, politically that would have been stupidity , since all the Sultans or Nawabs of Bengal wanted their own soverignity from Delhi ,this is the reason why ISha Khan was a major patron of Specific Bengali Hindu festivities like Durga Puja etc, and why Hossain Shah patronized through government officials(Rup and Sanatan Goswami being Finance minister and in-charge of the exchequer, The Kazi was an important patron of the movement) and other means . All other Muslim Bhui(n)as were highly patronizing all sorts of syncretic cultures ,they even had european generals to ward off the British .Many descendants of these europeans are now found in many parts of both the Bengals . Alivardi,Siraj and even Murshid Kuli khan had maintained good balances and never was found to have discriminated against any communities (Vide BAngalar Itihas -R.C.Mazumdar, Niharranjan Roy -Bangaleer Itihas etc.). The imperative of trying to distance from the Central power encouraged all the rulers Hindu/Muslim to run a SECULAR governments. In no regime in Bengal any particular religion was made the state religion ,Siraj used to take the blessings of the local Pirs and the local deity (a version of Kali) of Murshidabad before going to any expedition. Interestingly enough the treacheries bengal has experienced was always from Non-Bengalees in the government positions and the local Banias , It was there during Lakshman Sen's departure , during the fall of PAl dynasty , and was epitomized in the great treachery of the Marwari and Punjabi-Hindu banias in the persons of Jagatseth, RaiDurlabh, Umichand and MirJafar (a non-bengalee afghani who refused to consider himself as bengalee when Siraj and MirQasim's family did so).Later on in the Pakistan movement all bengalee muslims who took part with greater zeal distanced themselves from the non-bengalee leaders . It is also interesting to note that the only predecessor of some sort of the now BJP ,Shyamaprosad never raised his voice for once against the British . Not a single Hindu Mahasobha or hindu chauvinist was seen to ever struggle against British when almost all families were involved in some fashion in the independant struggle . We definitely notice that the BJP/SS gang do not have a single personality fighting in the independant struggle , against government powers. No wonder they are the true descendants of JAgatSEth,Raidurlabh,Umichand et al,and thus no wonder they have so little following among the bengalees.
BACKGROUND CONDITIONS OF ADVENT OF EUROPEAN CIVILIZATION IN BENGAL:
The English did not come first in Bengal. They came to Madras and Fort George was established by the British East-India Company. They opted for the Bengal subha when they found that culturally Bengalees were not at all stringent and open to accept "alien" civilization. The reason Bengalee elite accepted the British and european education and culture was because bengal always had been receptive to any new civilizations and went ahead whole hog to internalize it , prior to the British period the Bengali elite were educated with Sanskrit, Arabic and Farsi language and educations, now they went ahead with English and French and very few(like Rabindronath) in German. Bengal was not overwhelmed by the military or administrative aspects but by the philosophy, culture, civilization and education of the west . The groundwork of Bengal Renaissance was laid by the Western influence in Rational Philosophy and aesthetics .
